Ardrey, Robert. Papers

Robert Ardrey (1908-1980) Anthropologist and screenwriter. Contains personal and business correspondence; typescripts of papers Ardrey wrote as a student at the University of Chicago; manuscripts of plays, screenplays, novels, and short stories; writings and personal papers of his sons; the correspondence of Helen Johnson/Ardrey; newspaper clippings and reviews; and photographs. Correspondents include Thornton Wilder, Sinclair Lewis, and Clifford Odets

Chicago Stage and Screen. Collection

The Chicago Stage and Screen Collection contains stage and screen materials related to the city of Chicago, including the 1941 screenplay of Roxie Hart, the 1960 screenplay of King of Kings, the 1963 screenplay of Robin and the Seven Hoods, and a 1973 draft of the script of Chicago.

Documentary Film Group. Records

Contains administrative and financial records, correspondence, and publicity materials of the University's Documentary Film Group, a student-run film society in operation since the 1930s. The bulk of the material dates from 1950-1979.

Greene, Wesley H. Papers

Wesley H. Greene operated a Chicago-based film distributorship, and also worked as an educator, administrator and activist focused on film and the visual arts. His distribution concerns, including International Film Bureau, College Film Center, and Trans-World Films, handled a variety of film genres and served schools, colleges and universities, churches, clubs and businesses. This collection includes records of Greene's film distribution companies; posters and other movie publicity material; records of the Chicago Film Council; programs from Greene's international film series at University of Chicago; records of the Committee to Preserve the Ferguson Fund for Sculpture and Greene's litigation against the Art Institute of Chicago; and personal correspondence and memorabilia.

Hansen, Miriam. Papers

This collection contains the papers of University of Chicago professor and film scholar Miriam Hansen. It includes the personal documents, correspondence, administrative documents, teaching materials, and the research and writings of Hansen. The collection dates from 1902 to 2011, with the bulk of the material dating between 1980 and 2010.

Klein, Ben. Movie Advertising Cuts Collection

During his career in the printing industry, Ben Klein built a collection of thousands of movie advertising cuts representing early- and mid-twentieth century films. These small-format items would typically have been used as stock for movie advertisements. The collection represents an enormous array of 20th-century motion pictures from the 1920s to the 1970s, though the bulk of the collection relates to films produced from the 1940s-1960s.

Motion Picture Stills. Collection

Contains approximately 30,000 black and white photographs of movie stills, production shots, and portrait photographs of actors. Includes 8" x 10" photographs, 187 scrapbooks devoted to individual film stars, marquee cards, and glass lantern slides announcing coming attractions from Pathe and other movie studios.

Sen, Mrinal. Papers

Mrinal Sen (1923-2018) was a producer and director of the parallel cinema movement in India and Bangladesh. The collection contains papers and press clippings, including those about the damage to and restoration of his early films. Included in the collection are photographs, correspondence, and documents for Gita Shome Sen, an actress and wife of Mrinal Sen as well as some correspondence of his son, Kunal Sen. The documents and correspondence in this collection are written primarily in English and Bengali.

Winstein, Bruce. Film Poster Collection

The Bruce Winstein Film Poster Collection consists of 12 film posters and one multipage advertisement dating from 1954-1982, collected by University of Chicago physicist Bruce Winstein. The materials publicize films directed by Michelangelo Antonioni, Ingmar Bergman, Federico Fellini, and Robert Youngson.
