Donating Student Papers and Records of Student Organizations

The University Archives is actively interested in collecting papers and records documenting the experience of students on campus and the activities of student organizations. The Archives welcomes inquiries from students, alumni, and student organizations that have materials of interest for future historical research.

STUDENT PAPERS

Materials Included in Student Papers

Papers of current students and alumni can include a wide range of materials related to academic work, athletics, social and cultural groups, political activism, community involvement, and other aspects of the student experience. Papers of students and alumni may include:

  • Letters and emails
  • Course projects, class notes
  • Journals and scrapbooks
  • Photographs, audio recordings, videos
  • Posters, handouts, brochures, petitions
  • T-shirts, letter sweaters, caps, pins, and other memorabilia

RECORDS OF STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

Materials Included in Records of Student Organizations

Records of student organizations can vary widely depending on the purpose of the group, the length of its existence, the number of members, and the number and responsibilities of officers and committees. Typical student organization records may include:

  • Constitutions and bylaws, mission statements, annual reports
  • Membership lists and directories
  • Minutes and records of official actions
  • Letters, memos, and emails
  • Publications, posters, programs, brochures, handouts
  • Scrapbooks and clippings
  • Photographs, audio recordings, videos
  • T-shirts, pins, banners, and other memorabilia
