Survey Information

The Dissertation Office asks doctoral candidates to complete the Survey of Earned Doctorates and the University of Chicago Doctoral Survey at the request of University Administration.

Please register for the Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED).

You do not need to respond to every question, but you must move through the survey and press the "submit" button for your survey status to show as complete. Upon completion of the SED, a certificate of completion will be sent to you and the Dissertation Office will be notified.

The SED gathers information from new doctorate graduates from U.S. universities. See the Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED) web site for additional information.

After you complete the SED, you will be directed to a second questionnaire, the University of Chicago Doctoral Survey. University Administration asks doctoral candidates to complete both surveys, but you do not need to respond to every question if you do not wish to do so. You will not receive a certificate of completion for the second questionnaire.
