Web Publishing and Exhibits

Web Publishing Platforms

  • UChicago Voices: a free, self-service web platform that allows UChicago students, faculty, and staff to build blogs and websites for portfolios, courses, research groups, clubs, and more.
  • Scalar: an open-source authoring and publishing platform designed to allow users to write long-form, born-digital scholarship online, and assemble media from multiple sources and juxtapose them with their own writing.
  • WordPress: a content management system that can host and publish multimedia projects, images, and text.

Digital Exhibit Platforms

  • Omeka: a platform for creating and sharing online exhibits and digital collections.
  • CollectionBuilder: an open-source digital collections builder that utilizes the static site generator, Jekyll, and Google sheets.
  • Wax: an open-source digital collections builder using the static site generator, Jekyll.

Digital Storytelling

Temporal Projects:

  • TimelineJS: Open source timeline builder that uses Google sheets.
  • TimeMapper: Interactive timeline builder that allows for spatial representation

Spatial Projects:

  • StoryMapJS: From the creators of the popular TimelineJS, present a timeline on a map.
