Joe and Rika Mansueto
Joe and Rika Mansueto are alumni of the University of Chicago. Mr. Mansueto received his bachelor's degree in business administration from the College in 1978 and his MBA from the Graduate School of Business in 1980. Mrs. Mansueto received her bachelor's degree in anthropology from the College in 1991 and is a Trustee of the University of Chicago.
Mr. Mansueto is founder of Morningstar, Inc., a premier investment research firm. He started the company in 1984, working out of his one-bedroom apartment in Chicago. In 2012, Morningstar had more than 3,000 employees in 27 countries, with annual revenue of more than $658 million. Mrs. Mansueto was an investment analyst at Morningstar until 2000. The Mansuetos married in 1998 and have three children.
Mr. Mansueto also acquired business magazines Inc. and Fast Company from Gruner + Jahr USA Publishing in 2005.
The University of Chicago has honored Mr. Mansueto with the Graduate School of Business Distinguished Alumnus Award (2000) and a University of Chicago Alumni Association Professional Achievement Award (2003). In 2008, the Mansuetos were inducted into the University's Founders Circle in recognition of their support of the institution. The Mansuetos' $25 million gift to the University is being recognized through the naming of the Joe and Rika Mansueto Library, designed by Helmut Jahn.
