The Manufacturing Confectioner
Founded in 1921, with offices located on LaSalle Street in Chicago, this trade magazine cover proclaims that it is, "Read Wherever Good Candy Is Made". In 1931, Prudence Allured, who had earlier started the magazine with her husband, took over as publisher after this death. While managing the business, she raised three sons and was actively involved in confectionery committees and trade organizations. With her work she traveled all over the world and made a visit to the White House to meet with President Truman. Prudence Allured won numerous industry awards and was not only a pioneer in many ways (she was the first woman to receive a degree in Economics and Business Administration from Colorado College), but also an accomplished woman in the confectionery business.
This publishing company remains family-owned and continues to print The Manufacturing Confectioner, along with directories and instructional books on candy formulas and technology.
