The affiliation of the University of Chicago with the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in 2013 was the culmination of a long, productive relationship, a relationship that traces back to both institutions’ earliest days. This exhibit presents books, correspondence, and photographs documenting interactions between the two institutions, beginning with the founding of the MBL under Charles Otis Whitman’s directorship and the nearly simultaneous establishment by Whitman of biological sciences at the University, and concluding with a description of current developments.
