This exhibition focuses on the production and practice of a British "identity," evidenced through the contemporary book culture. Books on a variety of topics, ranging from antiquarianism to landscape gardening, domestic travel and tourism to geology, illustrate how an understanding and use of the native British environment is central to civic and cultural association of "place," in the sense of both physical location and social situation.
