Jongyoon Baik is a researcher of comparative political science, Chinese politics, media control, and authoritarianism. She completed her thesis entitled “Politics of the Administrative Litigation System in China” with support from the American Political Science Association’s Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Award. Based on this research, Jong Yoon Baik went on to create the Administrative Lawsuits Database, the most complete collection of court cases in China available at present. Currently Jong Yoon Baik is a postdoctoral scholar at the Center for the Study of Contemporary China at the University of Pennsylvania. Her recent works include “Speaking Up: Why People Dare to Sue the Government in China” (Journal of Law and Society).
