Byzantine Manuscripts of the New Testament from the Goodspeed Collection

The manuscripts presented in this exhibition represent a selection from the University's collection of New Testament manuscripts, named for Professor Edgar J. Goodspeed (1871-1962) of the Department of New Testament and Early Christian Literature. Goodspeed and his colleagues fostered the growth of this collection through their interest in, and groundbreaking work on, textual criticism and biblical translation. While a 1973 exhibition, New Testament Manuscript Traditions, focused on the textual significance of the manuscripts, this display highlights their artistic and paleographic aspects. The exhibition coincided with a Byzantine Studies Conference hosted at the University of Chicago.
