MIT AI Risk Repository

MIT has released its AI Risk Repository—a database of over 700 potential risks of artificial intelligence. The database supports each risk with a citation and link to literature on the subject. It further classifies each by cause and domain. The repository may be useful to students and faculty researching AI risk and practitioners drafting risk disclosures.

LexisNexis and Thomson Reuters announce new AI legal assistants

Both LexisNexis and Thomson Reuters recently announced new iterations of their AI legal assistant products. Lexis unveiled Protégé, which incorporates technology from its recent acquisition of Henchman that personalizes the AI based on user preferences as well as personal and firm work product.

Thomson Reuters announced CoCounsel 2.0, which they claim will work three times as fast as the current generation of CoCounsel, operate more intuitively, and integrate with Westlaw Precision, Practical Law, and Microsoft 365 products.

ABA Task Force on Law and Artificial Intelligence – Year 1 Report on the Impact of AI on the Practice of Law

The American Bar Association’s Task Force on Law and Artificial Intelligence recently released its Year 1 Report on the Impact of AI on the Practice of Law. The report addresses several issues, including:

  • Proposed amendments to Federal Rule of Evidence 901 to safeguard against AI-generated evidence and deepfakes
  • Issues with inconsistency and vagueness in standing orders on lawyers’ use of AI
  • The ethics of using AI in law practice
  • Survey results on how lawyers are using AI in practice and how schools are integrating AI into their curricula

“Litigation services company” used generative AI to create court filings that misappropriated attorney’s name and bar number

Florida Bar News reports that an out-of-state “litigation services company” filed AI-generated papers in an eviction case using a Florida attorney Matthew Weidner’s name and bar number, even though Weidner did not represent the client.
