Sassan Zand Moqaddam

Sassan Zand Moqaddam is the Middle Eastern Languages Metadata Specialist at The University of Chicago, a position he has held since April 8th, 2024. He earned his Master's in Library Science from Indiana University Bloomington in spring 2022, specializing in Rare Books and Manuscripts as well as Digital Humanities. His passion is centered around cataloging, along with the exploration of the Textual Encoding Initiative for manuscripts description and transcription, and Encoded Archival Description.

With a Ph.D. in Persian Language and Literature, Sassan brings a rich academic background and has taught in Iran for several years. His diverse interests include Codicology, Medieval Persian and Arabic Manuscripts, Turkish (Modern and Ottoman) Manuscripts and Books, and the culture surrounding Sufi Manuscripts. His academic journey has been shaped and enriched by influential mentors such as Joel Silver, John Walsh, William C. Chittick, and Mehdi Nourian.
