Director of Teaching and Academic Engagement

Rebecca Starkey

I am the Director of Teaching and Academic Engagement at the University of Chicago Library.

I oversee the Library's instruction services, which helps our students develop important information literacy skills needed for life-long learning. Our librarians work with University faculty and instructors to create customized instruction programs and assignments that promote the development of important research skills. The Library also engages with different departments and programs on campus to support undergraduate student success. Our partners include the Office of the Dean of Students in the College, the College a Center for College Student Success, Center for Identity + Inclusion, and the College Center for Research and Fellowships.

I also manage the Library's Ask a Librarian service, which connects our broad user community to the many collections and services available to support their information and research needs.

Finally, I serve as subject librarian for the fields of Education and Library Science, purchasing materials for the Library's collections, and providing research assistance to researchers interested in these fields.
