Paul D. Zuccarello was a noted band leader and arranger in Chicago during the 1940s and 1950s, and played at the Edgewater Beach Hotel.
The Paul Zuccarello Collection is arranged into two series: Series I, Arrangements and Compositions; and Series II, Sheet Music and Books: The Paul Zuccarello Collection contains stock and handwritten arrangements, sheet music, composition notebooks, instruction books, and songbooks of jazz and popular tunes for dance bands.
Series I, Arrangements and Compositions is divided into two subseries. Subseries I: Stock Arrangements, contains published and handwritten arrangements. Subseries II: Oversize Arrangements and Compositions, contains primarily handwritten and a few published arrangements. Some arrangements have stamped or written names, which may be the arranger, composer, band leader, musician, or someone else affiliated with the music. These names include Gay Claridge, Paul Di Gucco, E. Falaguerra, Herbie Holmes, Dick Jurgens, Chico La Marr, Howard McCreery, Joe Miller, Jim Nicoll, Mary Steele, Cornelius R. "Chico" Sullivan, Orrin Tucker, Jean Walz, Irene Wicker, and Paul Zuccarello. Also included are composition and arrangement notebooks. There are some unidentified pieces of arrangements. Some titles are in both subseries and may have more than one arrangement.
Series II, Sheet Music and Books is divided into two subseries. Subseries I, Sheet Music, contains published sheet music and sheet music catalogs. Subseries II, Music Books, includes method books, songbooks, and a collection of chord charts and scale diagrams.
Series III, General, contains mailing folders, an advertisement for score paper, a comic strip, an instruction manual for a shoe stitcher, a swatch sample and order form for performance jackets, and a commentary on horse racing.
