The collection is organized into four series: Series I: Women Employee Christmas Party, Series II: Employee Policies and Benefits, Series III: Unions at the University and Series IV: Faculty. It includes articles, agreements, booklets, clippings, flyers, invitations, pamphlets, and reports on the actions of and accommodations for employees at the University of Chicago.
Series I: Women Employee Christmas Party |
Series I: Women Employee Christmas Party presents a brief history of a holiday tradition at the university. Beginning in 1932, the women employees of the University of Chicago hosted an annual Christmas party as a large scale social event with dinner and musical programming. This series includes invitations and programs from throughout the years, as well as a variety of logistical documentation including seating lists and letters of excused absence from the Office of the Business Manager. Materials date between 1933 and 1962.

Series II: Employee Policies and Benefits |
Series II: Employee Policies and Benefits, includes employee handbooks and paperwork detailing the benefit packages, including healthcare and retirement plans, offered, as well as enrolment forms, tax savings worksheets, retirement applications, and payroll deduction authorization.

Series III: Unions at the University |
Series III: Unions at the University, provides a history of unionization and union action at the University of Chicago. It contains labor agreements, newspaper clippings, flyers, union advertisements, and meeting notes. It also includes documentation relating to specific organizations on campus: the UCEU and UOPWA, as well as the controversy surrounding the unionization efforts by University of Chicago Library employees throughout the 1970’s. Materials date between 1945 and 2000.
