| Abstract: | Fred L. Ribe (1924-2019) was a professor of nuclear engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle (1977-1989) and physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory (1951-1977). Ribe earned his MS (1950) and PhD (1951) at the University of Chicago. This collection is comprised of his course notes from his classes taught by Enrico Fermi while at the University of Chicago. |

Fred L. Ribe was born on August 14, 1924 to Viola Crowell Ribe and Otto E. Ribe in Laredo, Texas. He was raised in San Antonio, Texas and earned his BS (1944) from the University of Texas in electrical engineering. During World War II, he served as a technician in the US Navy signal intelligence program in Washington, DC. After the war, he returned to school and earned his MS (1950) and PhD (1951) from the University of Chicago where he was a student of Samuel Allison.
Ribe worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1951-1977 and was a professor of nuclear engineering at the University of Washington from 1977-1989.
This collection is comprised of materials from courses with Enrico Fermi at the University of Chicago between 1947 and 1951.
