Marta Ptaszyńska was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1943. She is an internationally known composer whose music has been presented at many international festivals and performed by renowned musicians. In 1998, Marta Ptaszyńska was appointed professor of Music and the Humanities at the University of Chicago. Prior to arriving at the University of Chicago, Ptaszyńska taught composition at Northwestern University, Indiana University in Bloomington, the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, the University of California at Berkeley and at Santa Barbara, and Bennington College in Vermont.
