This collection contains the records of the Ladies Matinee Musicale of Woodlawn and consists of meeting minutes, programs, attendance sheets and bylaws. The Ladies Matinee Musicale of Woodlawn was a musical society based in the present-day Woodlawn neighborhood. The group met on alternating Wednesdays during the autumn and winter seasons and in their bylaws they write that they aimed to promote higher musical standards in the community and provide entertainment for its members. The meetings consisted of paper readings, musical performances, artistic presentations, dramatic readings, and membership trials on a variety of subjects ranging from contemporary women and local composers, specific musical forms to experimental artistic practices and holiday themes. This material would be of interest to researchers in the field of music, particularly those studying women-led musical activities and societies at the turn of the century. This collection would also be of interest to scholars researching the history of the Woodlawn neighborhood.
