Dr. Dewey Katz was on staff in the ophthalmology department at the University of Chicago during the 1930s. In the 1920s he befriended Dr. Maximilian Salzmann, an Austrian ophthalmologist. Their correspondence resumed after World War II, when Katz and his colleagues organized care packages for Salzmann and his family.
The Dewey Katz Papers consist of correspondence between Katz and Dr. Maximilian Salzmann, as well as several letters written by Salzmann's daughter, Olga Blumauer, on his behalf.
