| Abstract: | The Federation of American Scientists was established on January 6, 1946, as a federation of seven associations of scientists and engineers, including those formed at the Manhattan Project sites of Oak Ridge, Los Alamos, New York, and Chicago. Its purpose, like that of its predecessor, the Federation of Atomic Scientists, was to agitate for the international control of atomic energy and its devotion to peaceful uses, public promotion of science and the freedom and integrity of scientists and scientific research. |
