Abstract:

Sandor Demlinger was a lifelong Chicagoan and photographer. Together with John Steiner, Demlinger published "Destination Chicago" in 2003, a collection of photographs documenting Chicago’s famed jazz performance spaces.

Biographical Note

Sandor Demlinger was a lifelong Chicagoan and photographer. Together with John Steiner, Demlinger published Destination Chicago in 2003, a collection of photographs documenting Chicago’s famed jazz performance spaces.

The collection features photographs by Demlinger, Steiner, and Bill Russell of jazz musicians performing at clubs, theaters, and ballrooms, in addition to more casual performances in homes. In addition, the collection includes photographs of exteriors and interiors of performances spaces throughout the city.

Scope Note

The majority of the photos in this collection include typed captions attached to the photos and some additional information on the back of the photos. The first section of the collection includes photographs that Demlinger indexed. The second section includes photographs titles based on the captions.
