Anna Payne Cunningham (1880-1964) was an assistant librarian responsible for the agricultural branch of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute library (1923-1942). She was born December 25, 1880 in Chesterfield County, Virginia, the youngest of 9 children. Her parents were Theodore LeGrande Payne and Anna Catherine Winston.
Cunningham married William Newton Cunningham ca. 1923 in Blacksburg, VA where he was a professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. They lived in Blacksburg during the 1920s through 1940s.
During the summer of 1937, Cunningham visited the University of Chicago for a librarians’ educational program. This collection consists of two bound scrapbooks documenting Cunningham’s first impressions of Chicago and the University of Chicago.
