General report of the Chicago industrial area: a review of 1944, prepared by the Industrial Department of the Chicago Association of Commerce. Foreword dated 1946. The collection, previously in one volume, contains pamphlets, data charts, graphs, maps, reports, illustrations, and other materials related to aspects of industrial and commercial activities in the Chicago area in the first half of the twentieth century, reflecting in particular their wartime transformations. From the foreword: “This survey of the Chicago Industrial Area has been designed to serve as a reference for executives and industrial engineers who are concerned with the problem of factory location.”
The report is divided into twelve sections: General, Industry, Labor, Population, Transportation, Utilities, Research and Education, Topography and Areal Geology, Climate, Taxes, Residence Areas, and Recreation. This internal organization is preserved in the present collection.
