| Abstract: | Ralph Buchsbaum (January 2, 1907 – February 11, 2002) was an American zoologist, invertebrate biologist, and ecologist. He received his PhD in zoology at the University of Chicago in 1932 and remained there as a faculty member until he moved to the University of Pittsburgh in 1950. |

Ralph Buchsbaum (January 2, 1907 – February 11, 2002) was an American zoologist, invertebrate biologist, and ecologist. He received his PhD in zoology at the University of Chicago in 1932 and remained there as a faculty member until he moved to the University of Pittsburgh in 1950. In 1938, he published the biology textbook Animals Without Backbones, which became the first textbook ever reviewed in Time magazine and featured in Life. Ralph Buchsbaum frequently published with his wife, Mildred Buchsbaum. Buchsbaum retired from the University of Pittsburgh in 1972 and died on February 11, 2002 in Pacific Grove, California.
