Government Documents Resource: ProQuest Congressional
Sunday, May 12, 2024, is Mother's Day, but did you know that the holiday that we know today is the result of a bill passed in 1914?
In honor of Mother's Day, the D'Angelo Law Library is featuring the ProQuest Congressional database - an e-resource for accessing U.S. federal government documents, including Congressional debates (all iterations of the Congressional Record), hearings, House and Senate reports, the Serial Set, Committee prints, CRS and GAO reports. ProQuest has U.S. federal government documents going back to 1789, and all documents are available as fully searchable PDFs.
You can locate in ProQuest Congressional the full text of the May 8 , 1914 Joint Resolution (as published in the Statutes at Large) and the May 9 , 1914 Presidential Proclamation declaring the second Sunday in May a national day to celebrate American mothers.
If you have questions, please don't hesitate to Ask a Law Librarian! Happy Mother's Day!
